From our beloved and fantastically improved KSU-Atwood superstrain! To give you an idea how vigorous the seeds we offer here as well have to offer!

Released by the University of Kentucky, KSU Atwood is the heaviest producing variety tested at the largest pawpaw germplasm repository in the world. Also impressive is it’s medium size 1/4 – 1/2 lb+ fruit and average production of 150 fruits/tree, equaling roughly 40 lbs (about one bushel) of fruit per tree!

These select trees Fruits have a good, creamy texture, are sweet, yellow fleshed with a burst of tropical strawberry Mango fruit flavor and scintillating fruity aroma!

KSU Atwood also has better than average disease resistance. An excellent first release from the KSU program. A great addition to any pawpaw orchard or farm.

Pawpaws are indigenous to the Eastern United States, the natural habitat is that of an under-story tree. It will often be found growing in dense groves. Because of this be sure to plant multiple varieties for cross pollination.

Care should be taken to give shade for the first few years as they are getting established.

Plant as close as 5 feet apart to encourage the roots translocation of nutrients between trees.

Clarification of what a seedling

The seller should make clear what the difference is between a pawpaw variety and the seedlings grown from the fruit of the cultivar. The seedlings are not a clone of the mother. The principal is identical to human children who are not clones of their mothers. Pawpaw seedlings from superior varieties have a good chance of giving us seedling trees that are also high quality. But there is a range of traits. Often there will be seedlings inferior to the mother. And we MUST NOT say the seedling is an Atwood. The seller is not saying they are but it should be stated explicitly to avoid confusion in the future.
